We have some exciting news to share. Food Web has been awarded a $25,000 grant from Feed Nova Scotia — and the majority of it is going directly into the hands of food entrepreneurs through our new Credit Program.
This grant is a meaningful milestone for us, and more importantly, it's a meaningful benefit for anyone who has been waiting for affordable access to a licensed commercial kitchen.
About Feed Nova Scotia
Feed Nova Scotia is a provincial organization working to build a stronger, more resilient food system across Nova Scotia. They support food security, food access, and the infrastructure that makes a thriving local food economy possible.
We are proud to be aligned with their mission, and grateful that they recognized Food Web's role in making licensed kitchen space more accessible to the people who need it most.
How the Grant is Being Used
The $25,000 grant flows through our partner, the Restaurants Association of Nova Scotia (RANS), and is allocated as follows:
- $16,000 → Renter credit pool (directly subsidizing kitchen rentals for food entrepreneurs)
- $4,500 → Food Web administration and platform support
- $3,500 → RANS, for their role as program partner
- $1,000 → Marketing to get the word out to the people who need it
The core of this grant is the $16,000 renter credit pool — that money exists to make kitchen access more affordable for food entrepreneurs in Nova Scotia, right now.
What Is the Food Web Credit Program?
The Food Web Credit Program is a direct subsidy for kitchen renters on the Food Web platform. Qualified applicants receive credits applied to their rental bookings — reducing the cost of getting into a licensed commercial kitchen.
This is for the caterers, cottage food producers, food truck operators, meal prep services, bakers, and food entrepreneurs who have a great product but are held back by the cost and complexity of finding compliant kitchen space.
Who Is It For?
- Food entrepreneurs in Nova Scotia looking for part-time commercial kitchen access
- Cottage food producers looking to scale up and go legit
- Caterers, meal prep services, bakers, and food truck operators
- Anyone who needs a licensed kitchen but isn't ready to sign a full lease
Why This Matters
Over two years of conversations with food entrepreneurs across Nova Scotia, one challenge surfaces more than any other: the cost and inaccessibility of licensed kitchen space is the biggest barrier to starting and growing a food business.
This grant is a direct response to that. It doesn't just create a program — it puts real money toward solving the problem in a tangible, immediate way.
We're proud to deliver this alongside RANS and with the support of Feed Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia's food ecosystem deserves infrastructure that works — and this credit pool is one more piece of that.
